The Thunder Rolls

We've had thunder and lightning storms every afternoon this week. The temperature peakes between 5 and 6 pm in Boise. I think thats why alot of storms start around that time. My sister Krinkle posted about a song my dad sang to us as kids. Its probably the reason we all love the storms so much and find them facinating! It's funny how I hum that song in my mind as the thunder starts booming! I snapped these pictures last night.

Memorial Day

Photobucket
Many people observe this holiday by visiting cemeteries and memorials. A national moment of remembrance takes place at 3 p.m. US Eastern time. Another tradition is to fly the U.S. flag at half-staff from dawn until noon local time. Volunteers usually place an American flag upon each grave site located in a National Cemetery.
In addition to remembrance, Memorial Day is also also used as a time for picnics, barbecues, family gatherings, and sporting events. One of the longest standing traditions is the running of the Indianapolis 500, (I went to School with Davey Hamilton) which has been held in conjunction with Memorial Day since 1911. Some Americans also view Memorial Day as the unofficial beginning of summer and Labor Day as the unofficial end of the season. Many Americans use Memorial Day to also honor any family members who have died, not just servicemen.

Cailin

Today would have been my very first Grand Daughters 6th birthday. Eric and Shawna had already flown to Portland to prepare for the birth of their baby girl. They had found out several weeks earlier during a routine ultrasound that their unborn daughter had Hyplastic Left Heart Syndrome. She would be delivered at Oregon Health Science University Hospital in Portland. The plan was to have a 90% successful heart surgery. One of approximately three planned her first two years of life.

I was attending Janelle's High School graduation when we got the call. Shawna went into labor a few days early. She didn't have to be induced. Everyone was praying the outcome would be good.

Cailin Marie Davis made her appearance the morning of May 23rd, 2002. CPR had to be performed. They immediately did a quick surgery and hooked her up to a ECMO machine. Her life support.
Photobucket
I was at work when I received the call. Eric told me the news, it didn't look good. I packed my bags and hit the road with my daughter Janelle for a long 7 hour drive. I was stressed and nervous but continued to pray for baby Cailin. By the time we arrived she had been transferred to Doernbecker Childrens Hospital. I found the NICU and reunited with the family. When I first laid eyes on Cailin, it brought tears to my eyes and she took my breath away. She was a fat, pink, beautiful little Angel. Then I noticed the machines, the tubes, the bandaids, the gauze. How could God do this?? Her parents were only 20 years old! It broke my heart. Nobody should go through such pain and suffering! Why them??
Cailin laid there with tubes out of her open chest, from her heart to the ECMO. She had a breathing tube. She had an IV. She was sedated to keep her heart rate down. The less stress the better. Her poor little body was trying to heal and survive. I witnessed the pure love of a parent as Eric and Shawna held her fingers, caressed her hair and stroked her little toes. Eric sang to her daily. "Hey little girl, look what you do... Oh I love you.. Hey little girl look what you do. I got you, my own Cailin. Hey little girl. Oh I love you!"
Photobucket
Only a couple of times as the sedation wore off did she open her eyes and look around. I believe she laid there in Gods ever loving arms receiving comfort only he could give her. I believed her life on earth would be short, but remained strong and hopeful. A mother's worst pain is seeing her child suffer. I could only offer comfort with a hug and my presents.
Baby Cailin lived 11 days. During her short time on earth, she touched many lives. She must have been a very special Angel to be able to return to and live with God so soon. Baby Cailin, you will always be in my heart. Happy Birthday! Love Grammy.

More camping

I took several pictures while we were at Brownlee. The reservoir was about 25 feet low. You can tell by the water line along the edge. There is a railroad that runs freight across the river. My Handyman is a flat lander from Minnesota. He is amazed that the free range cattle walk along the hillside. Every time we see them he's afraid they're going to tip over and roll down the hill. I about die laughing hearing him talk about it. There were Whistle Pigs running everywhere! I zoomed in and snapped one. Sunflowers were blooming everywhere.

Crappie

Camping and fishing was a huge success.. Once we got the camper unhitched and level and was all settled in, My Handyman and I started relaxing. We went to Brownlee Reservoir and stayed at Farewell Bend State Park. Gotta love full hook-ups! Especially when you're in the desert and the weekend was around 100 degree's every day! It was HOT HOT HOT!!! We cussed under our breath; but once we hit the river every afternoon and was sitting in the shade, a cooler full of water, and a slight breeze was blowing; with our poles in the water we were just fine. I caught a 22 inch Catfish and a 16 inch Bass. Late afternoon the Crappie started biting. Every cast we were catching something, nearly 100 fish each day. We were having so much fun! We kept only the large ones. A few were over 2 pounds. It was a full moon so we were able to see the bobber until about 10 pm. I slept like a baby every night.. Much better than sitting in the cubicle each day or doing chores at home! We're planning a fish fry over the weekend.

It trims paper in many different edges. I plan on using it when creating Wedding Invites in the near future. There are 11 rotary blades.

Tagged

Sharon over at Norah's Art tagged me and somebody tagged her and I'm suppose to tag you. But first ....the rules
The rules of the game are:
1. Link back to the person that tagged you.
2. Post these rules on your blog.
3. Share six unimportant things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your entry.

I'm going to quote Sharon "Six unimportant things about me: Well there are a lot of unimportant things about me and they are so unimportant that I'm having a hard time thinking of them. " Ditto!
1. I keep lists! Grocery lists. Chore lists. Wish lists. Card lists. Birthday lists. Camping lists. Inventory lists. Paint lists. I think this looks like a list of my lists.
2. I am home for the day and I am wearing my usual attire. Old big t-shirt, no bra and my PJ bottoms, oh and bare feet!
3. I am having left over beef fajita's for dinner. I cook enough to have at least one lunch and one dinner worth of leftovers.
4. I need to go to the carwash. The wind was blowing when the sprinklers were on and my car is now covered with mud spots!

5. I turn red when I laugh. I turn red when I'm embarrassed. I turn red when I'm mad. I turn red when I'm hot. My favorite color is Red.
6. My window blinds need cleaned. Each time I open them.. the dust bunnies wish me a fine day! I have a phone number for someone to clean them but its the last thing on my mind until the next time they're opened.

If you're reading my blog... Your tagged!
