Miracles

Some people believe in miracles.  Some people believe in fate.  Some people believe in Karma.   Some people believe it is what it is.

This is forever in my memory…

Three years ago today, my son was shot in the heart with a nail gun.  He was at work in Tamarack working on an addition to big resort home.   It was cold, windy and snowy. His crew was trying to finish so they could head home to Boise for Christmas.   He was climbing up the ladder with the nail gun and slipped on an icy step.     The nail gun hit his chest and shot the nail.   It entered on impact.

He stepped down the ladder and called 911.   It took awhile for the ambulance to get to him from McCall.   The emergency room took X-rays and  weren’t sure if the nail was in his heart or not.  They called Boise and it was determined to Life Flight him there.   Again… it was windy and snowy.   Life flight could not take off.   An airplane had to be sent to McCall from Boise to pick him up and take him back to Boise, then to the hospital.

Friends and Family were gathering at the Saint Al’s Emergency room anxiously awaiting his arrival.  It took 5 hours for him to get there and into surgery.  We were crying,  nervous, anxious, talking, comforting each other and praying.  We had no idea what to expect or even how serious the injury was.

The surgeons had a room waiting for him with their plans in place.   Just before his arrival they escorted us to a waiting room as they took Jenn, his wife,  to be with him for a few seconds as they wheeled him to surgery. We were told it would be a couple of hours before we knew anything.  Time stood still.  More silent prayers.

I don’t remember the exact time, but it was less than 2 hours and the surgeon came out.   The first words out of his mouth was that Eric had survived a fatal injury.   Several of us started crying.  The doctor continued to explain that they cut his chest open,  quickly pulled the nail out then opened him up to see the damage.   The nail had gone through two chambers of his heart.  A small clot had formed around the nail.  It took one stitch to sew the hole in his heart.  Much more to sew up his chest.

5 hours!  With a 3 1/4” 16 penny ring shank nail in his heart.   I believe in the power of prayer.  I believe in divine intervention.   I believe that he was being protected all those hours before his arrival for the surgeons to take over.

He was able to go home Christmas morning.  He spent the day surrounded by his loving family and gave us a Christmas Miracle of 2009.

Family

The Fall weather in Boise Idaho has been so beautiful!    Cool in the evenings and beautiful during the day!  I love it!   The leaves are starting to change colors, too.    I took Eric, Jenn and the kids out for a family photo shoot Sunday afternoon.  What a joy to take pictures of these beauties…  and quite the challenge with two little ones wanting to hurry it up and run all over the place.  Here are a few I really like.

Here are a couple that  the sun is really bright in the background so I tried toning them down with an added texture.

Kendall really wanted to get her hand on Carters spiky hair.

I may be a little prejudice but I think they’re a beautiful family and Carter and Kendall are the cutest kids I know..

Week 25 – Fatherhood

The theme this week over at My Four Hens is Fatherhood.   Since my Father is no longer with us…  I wasn’t sure what kind of picture I was going to take.

I was at my Son Eric’s house Saturday afternoon and his Son, My Grandson Carter was showing off his new bike riding skills to me.   No training wheels.   Well…  he biked across the yard and didn’t quite turn quick enough and crashed.   His little toe was bleeding.    I quickly grabbed my camera and captured this as Eric was applying the band.aid to Carters toe.

Together

I finished up my first Silhouette class over at Jessica Sprague last week. I’ve had my Silhouette for over a year but this basic class was great for me.  I learned a lot of shortcuts that will save me time.   You know how much I love saving time!

I finally got this fun little mini album put together.  It started out looking like this after cutting out all of the files with my Silhouette.

I glued and bound all of the pages together with an accordion sheet that I learned how to draw myself and cut out.   I love that I can now create my own SVG files!

I  converted a bunch of pictures to black and white using my Photoshop Elements 10 program then printed them on HP presentation paper.   It’s great to use for this type of mini album.

Here is the finished product.  The pictures are of My Son and his Family.   You know…. the Grands I am always talking about.

The great thing about the Silhouette is that you use Fonts from your own collection.

Products used:   Silhouette SD, CTMH -  Breeze, Autumn Terracotta, Colonial White, Chocolate.  Vintage Photo distress ink. Seam binding ribbon. Lace. Rhinestones. Pigma Pen.  SU papers. Cosmo Cricket papers.  Custom printed papers. Twine. Metal Accents.

I’ve signed up and about to take a more advanced class.  Oh The Places You’ll Go. I hope I learn as much from it as I did the first one!.

See the gently falling leaves…  I LOVE FALL! AMEN!    There is just something about the crisp clean air.  Sunshine during the day with just a little crispness to it.   The tree’s are changing colors and oh how amazing those colors are!

I created this Digital Scrapbook page using the November kit from Little Dreamer Designs. Pictures are from the Family photo shoot I took of my Son and his Family at Kathryn Albertson Park in Boise.

A Day of Fun

Wow!  I had a busy day today.  I attended my first holiday bazaar of the season this morning, went shopping with the middle child then had two photo shoots this afternoon.

It was a beautiful day in Idaho..   partly cloudy but chilly.

Here are a couple of silly shots of my Son’s Family. I bought this frame to take some fun shots with a few weeks ago and have been anxious to use it.  Of course the boys were being silly.   Carter is 4 and all boy!  If we could bottle up his energy we would be millionaires. I love his silly grin in the Family photo.

I’m still giggling over that silly grin… It's been a long day. I think I'll go climb under the quilts and read for awhile.

Snow, Ice and more Snow

Winter started early in Idaho.  I have many fond winter memories as a child.  Snowmen, Snow Angels, No School days, Sleighing, etc. It’s hard for me to admit… but I like snow..   It’s fun and adds another season to this great State that I live in..

The downfall….  driving in it..   We’ve had a few extremely icy days already this year. It’s no fun to drive 16 miles to work on a sheet of ice.  I wish it would just dump a foot and give my tires something to grip to.    Why with our extensive brain power can’t someone figure out to keep it melted off the roads, sidewalks, parking lots etc….   No, I’m not in la la land as I type this..   A girl can dream, you know!

Winter sports is a big Idaho activity.   Its about an hour drive to Bogus Basin ski resort,  an hour to the  snow mobile area’s.  An hour or two to other area Winter Wonderlands such as McCall, Sun Valley, etc.

Isn’t he the cutest little snowboarder?    My Son snowboards and he really wants my DIL to learn.   I guess she’s going to have to wait another season since she has my newest grandbaby on the way.  (We find out next week what it’s going to be) .   I’m sure it won’t be long before Carter is on ski’s.   I think Eric was 3 the first time he skied.

Products used:  CTMH – X7069B – Just Chillin. Vineyard Berry. Desert Sand.  Pink Cat Studio’s digi image. Copic markers. Nestabilities. Verve – Framed Wishes.  PTI – Die cut.
