Oysters

Yaquina Bay is quite large.  The large bridge that I’ve been sharing with you in previous posts, crosses over the bay near the mouth.   We drove around the edge,  back about 5 miles to the Oregon Oyster Farm.  What a fascinating place..  seeing how they farm the oysters on nets attached to poles hanging in the bay..    We bought a small bucket,  took them home and pan fried a few.  The rest went into the freezer for a later date.  It was red tide so we couldn’t do any shooters.   They all had to be cooked.

You can order them on line and they’ll Fedex fresh ones…  right to your front door.  Check it out HERE.
See that nice white edge of the water?   That is oyster shells that the workers shuck…  They’re quite blinding when walking up to the edge.

OSU Marine Center

The same day of the storm...  we went to the OSU Marine Center...   just down the street from the Crabbing Dock....  Not be be confused with the Oregon Coast Aquarium which costs $15 per person to get in...     The Maine Center was free....  with a suggested donation of $5.

It was an amazing place.  It was a fabulous educational center with all kinds of Ocean facts..
There were all kinds of touch tanks,   and bones,   and machines,  and sea creatures!

Killer Whale Scull

Sperm Whale Calf...   (Did I mention that we seen gray whales spouting??   Almost every day?)

I went into the gift show to browse and found a fun Sea Life book for Carter and an Octopus Hand puppet.   Of course the big kids had to play with it, too!

Yaquina Head Lighthouse

We woke up to heavy rain and wind one morning.  A couple of limbs from the tree's next to the deck even broke off.   It was crazy.   When the rain finally stopped,  we ventured out.   The guys decided they wanted to go Crabbing so we girls decided to go visit a couple of light houses.

The Seas were raging and glorious!!

Yaquina Head Lighthouse.

Shopping Village

Not far from the infamous Crabbing Dock is a little shopping village.  There were a few quaint shops for our viewing pleasure.   I didn't spend a dime!

Cute as a Button

If you've read my blog for awhile...  You know I love buttons and have quite a collection.   I have a button box... A large jar of mixed buttons and smaller  jelly jars full of them.

If I go to a yard sale  or antique stores....  If the price is right.... I'll buy more.   Why you might ask?     I have no idea... They just catch my eye...  and I love using them on my cards.  Paper Trey Ink....  AKA- PTI  sells vintage buttons that coordinate with their ink and cardstock colors!    They're yummy eye candy!

We crafters love to share our addictions....  Go visit them and buy a few!

The Bay Bridge

The crabbing dock is in Yakina Bay. The Bay Bridge crosses the bay and makes for some fabulous photo ops while waiting for the crab baskets to fill up.

OK...  I can't resist....  Just a few more crabbing pictures....  a couple of days there was barely elbow room...

We met lots of new friends ....

The bay bridge from a different view....  We went to visit the little Yakina Bay lighthouse.  Its on the other side of the bridge..

Elvis Was Spotted at The Beach!

While in Newport we went shopping at the funnest little toy store.  It's called Sand Castle Toys.  The guy there was a big kid at heart.  He showed us all the fun toys and how they worked.  I picked out a few birthday presents for Carter while there.    While there, we decided to go visit the historic Nye Beach.    It was such a beautiful day!!

While walking on the path and viewing the ocean through the Sea Grass.....  we heard some music.    We walked back up the path and look who we spotted!!!  He was singing to a couple that was just newly married out on the beach.

After watching and being entertained for a few minutes...  we walked down to the beach. Great weather for getting a very nice sun burn!! (no matter how much sun screen you use!).

Discovering the Joy of Helping Others

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.
                                                                                 ----AESOP

One of my friends and fellow stampin',  card queens has been out of commission for quite some time.    She's had 4+ surgeries on her shoulder and elbow over the last 3+ years.   Its been really hard for her to stamp and make cards so I told her I would put some kits together for her.  She would just have to do a little coloring and embellishing and glue them together.    Then I thought....  I'm going to make myself a few too...  Its so much easier when making several of the same card....  and there is less scrap..   Each kit makes 6-9 cards..

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this kit yet....  maybe one of the new PTI stamps..
