Recipes

What is your favorite holiday recipe?? I got the idea from Shelley at Simple Abundance . Post your favorite recipes on your blog and link to me. Leave a comment along with your blog address and I'll check out your recipes and add to my growing list of favorites!

Ashley asked me a couple of days ago to teach her how to make fudge. We're going to have a lesson tomorrow night. I'll take pictures to post and share! I don't want you to miss out on the fun!!! Here is the recipe:

Fantasy Fudge

¾ cup margarine or butter (1 ½ sticks)
3 cups sugar
2/3 cup evaporated milk
1 pkg 12z semi sweet chocolate chips
1 jar 7z marshmallow crème
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 tsp vanilla

Lightly grease 13x9 pan. Mix margarine, sugar and milk in heavy 2 ½ quart saucepan; bring to a full rolling boil on medium heat, stirring constantly. Continue boiling 5 minutes on medium heat or until candy thermometer reaches 234 F, stirring constantly to prevent scorching. Remove from heat. Gradually stir in chips until melted. Add remaining ingredients; mix well. Pour into prepared pan. Cool at room temperature; cut into squares.

Its a super easy Recipe and tastes Fabulous!!!

Whaddifs

What if?? If only!! Why?? We want everything too SOON! Could it be that God will reveal answers to you when the time comes?? The key is: Meet today's problems with today's strength. Don't start tackling tomorrow's problems until tomorrow. You do not have tomorrow's strength yet. You simply have enough for today. Jesus made the same point in fewer words: "So don't worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will have its own worries. Each day has enough trouble of its own" (Matt 6:34)

A Christmas to Remember

Christmas usually makes us think of shopping in the snow, of caroling, loving, giving, sharing, And that special mistletoe.
It reminds most folks of Santa, And presents 'neath the tree, And Christmas had always brought, Those same thoughts to me.
But something happened late one night To change the way I feel. An unexpected incident that made the season real.
I had just come from talking, to a real close friend of mine. We were pondering the season, In a voice much like a whine.
For complaining seems to be the norm When Christmas gets this near. "Just can't wait to get it over" Is all you ever hear.
Well, it was snowing really hard I was miserable and cold. And the packages I had, Were getting awfully hard to hold.
So I thought I'd just stop and sit While I waited for my ride. I found a bus stop shelter I went and sat inside.
My Christmas spirit was not the best, As I shivered from the cold. And all the holly jolly stuff, was getting really old.
I sat there with my attitude, When I noticed 'cross the street, A nativity no one cared for, It looked old and pretty beat.
The thought had crossed my mind, "How sad, does no one really care?" Now that Santa's the important one, To children everywhere.
People passing, no one cared, The cradle had been tipped, And the dress on Virgin Mary, was looking worn and ripped.
I figured, well it's so commercialized, And now Santa is the one, That children care about 'cause he brings all the fun.
That's the time I spent on that so I'm just as guilty too, Until I saw the incident That changed my point of view.
It was a man dressed in a suit, A Santa Claus no less. He was fixing up the manger scene, And cleaning up the mess.
As I sat there watching him I didn't feel the cold, I felt the love and warmth he had For a birthday long ago.
He looked down at baby Jesus, Then he knelt down reverently, Took his hat from off his head And laid it 'cross his knee.
I heard the prayer he said that night, It's one I'll not forget, He said, "Bless the children I've not seen And all the ones I've met.
Please help the parents of these kids, To make them understand, That you're the reason we are here I'm just here to lend a hand.
He said, " I didn't mean to be important, I didn't mean to be the one That everybody thinks of first, When you're the chosen son."
He wiped his eyes from tears of love As he continued on, " I want the folks to realize This way they think is wrong.
Please help me have the power To teach these people true, That the spirit of the holiday, Its not in me, but You.
I see in all the homes around, They decorate in me. I was supposed to be for fun It's you they need to see.
I'm sorry I'm complaining He said still on one knee, " I wish I had the power, To help some of them see.
For God so loved the world he gave His only begotten son, How can they compare my gifts To this special Holy One.
He stopped talking for a moment, Just knelt in fervent prayer Beside the manger scene he fixed With tender loving care.
He put his hat back on his head, Slowly rose up on his feet, He zipped his coat, said good-bye then wandered down the street.
It wasn't 'til that moment, I noticed people everywhere, They all had stopped to listen, And they had heard that Santa's prayer.
'Cross the way was an apartment with windows that faced the street, And faces in every window Probably people he'd never meet.
Will he ever know The 'power' he received, If I hadn't seen it for myself I'm not sure that I'd believed.
But now I know the 'power' Is in each and everyone, As we treat Christmas as a birthday For an only begotten Son.
I know that Christmas in my house Will never be the same again, It changed one night I heard Santa say, "In Jesus name, Amen"

Stampin Again

I'm supposed to be finishing up my Christmas Cards. I have stacks of paper pieces piled up all over my table; ready to finish stamping and assemble. What do I do? I make something else. I bought this Stampin UP! True Friends stamp set a couple of weeks ago. I used Crate Paper - Cowgirl paper and Verve Visual stamp - Thoughtful Phrases. I punched a large antique copper eyelet and tied a taupe ribbon. I used CTMH Barn Red Ink. I think it turned out pretty good if I say so myself.

Traveling Light

Odds are, you did this morning, Somewhere between the first step on the floor, and the last step out the door, you grabbed some luggage. You stepped over to the baggage carousel and loaded up. The carousel is not the one in the airport; it's the one in the mind. And the bags we grab are not made of leather; they're made of burdens. The suitcase of guilt. The trunk of discontent. A backpack of anxiety and the hanging bag of grief. Add on a briefcase of perfectionism, an overnight bag of loneliness, and a duffle bag of fear. No wonder we are so tired at the end of the day!!

I'm reading the book Traveling Light by Max Lucado.

Releasing the burdens you were never intended to bear
Later today I'll be drawing a name of the Blog Candy winner. Its not too late to leave a comment on the Nov 30th post!!

Grandma Beth

My Mom sent me an email the other day with a quote by her mom, my Grandma Beth. I thought I would share it with out and add it to my other quotes. My Grandma Beth gave birth to 8 Children. 6 pregnancies. She had 2 sets of twins. My mom is a twin.

(Here's a quote from Mom that you might like for your blog. When one of us thought our world was coming to an end she would say.............

"When you feel like you're near the end of the rope, tie a knot and hang on!")

Sorry the pictures aren't very good. I scanned them from a family recipe book. This is my Grandma Beth with all 8 children taken about 1975??
David, Mary, Dolores, Dorothy (mom), Lois, Bill
Bob, Grandma Beth, Carol. Dolores is my moms twin and Lois and Bill are twins.

Miss you Grandma!!

Snow Friends

I hear that there has been snow flying all around the country. We have snow in the mountains but none in town; yet! It sure feels like it could happen. Its a cold, blustery day out.

I created this card using the CTMH set - Snow Friends. I will be giving away one of these sets 12/8. (leave a comment on the Nov 30 post)

Cardstock is Crystal Blue, Smoky Plum and Hollyhock. I used my Cuttlebug snowflake embossing folder on the Smoky Plum. For those of you that aren't aware, CTMH cardstock is white cored. It is not dyed through the entire paper; so if you emboss, tear, sand, or distress in anyway, you can see the white core. I love it!
