Oh Heart of Mine

The day is rapidly approaching and I’m finally making a few Valentines.   I’m not sure how many I’ll get made this year…

These are a couple more of Heather Ellis’s Sweet Innocence digital stamps.    I love making Valentine cards because of the colors.  Reds and Greens are my fave!

Amore may refer to:

  • Love, in the Italian language
  • Love, from the latin word "Amat" meaning "To Love"

Love is the emotion of strong affection and personal attachment. In philosophical context, love is a virtue representing all of human kindness, compassion, and affection. Love may also be described as actions towards others (or oneself) based on compassion. Or as actions towards others based on affection.

The word love can refer to a variety of different feelings, states, and attitudes, ranging from generic pleasure ("I loved that meal") to intense interpersonal attraction ("I love my partner"). "Love" can also refer specifically to the passionate desire and intimacy of romantic love, to the sexual love of eros (cf. Greek words for love), to the emotional closeness of familial love, or to the platonic love that defines friendship, to the profound oneness or devotion of religious love. This diversity of uses and meanings, combined with the complexity of the feelings involved, makes love unusually difficult to consistently define, even compared to other emotional states.

Love in its various forms acts as a major facilitator of interpersonal relationships and, owing to its central psychological importance, is one of the most common themes in the creative arts.

Wedding Season

Wedding Season will soon be here.  Brides and their Mothers are busily planning for the big day.   One of my Blogger friends,  Cherie over at Bakow Babble has a daughter getting married soon.   She has been trying to get ideas from her readers.

As most of you know, my Daughter Ashley was married to her Prince David in June of 2010.    I had fun going through the 5000+ photo’s to pick out a few to share.    This will give Cherie a few fun ideas.  We did almost everything ourselves. From building the backdrop to painting, to sewing flowers.  I hope you enjoy the slideshow..

TVP

I recently discovered my favorite grocery store, WinCo Foods has TVP.   Have you heard of it?   Textured Vegetable Protein. It's in their bulk foods section.

Textured or texturized vegetable protein (TVP), also known as textured soy protein (TSP), soy meat, or soya meat is a meat analogue or nutritious meat extender made from defatted soy flour, a by-product of extracting soybean oil. It is quick to cook, with a protein content equal to that of the meat, and contains no fat.

The texture (when dry)  reminds me of Grape Nuts.

Add it to water to soften, then use as a filler.    I add it to tuna to make it go farther.   It’s great in scrambled eggs.  Throw a handful in a pot of soup for a little extra protein.  Yesterday I added it to my hamburger when I made taco meat.    The cost is less than the meat….. and there is a bonus! …. It has less fat and calories, too!

Give it a try!  It’s great for your health and your pocketbook!

Not only is WinCo Foods the low price leader for groceries,  they’ve been my employer for 25 years!   Yes!  Can you believe it?  I had my 25th anniversary on January 8th…    Time sure flies!

Pure Innocence

I love all of the Pure Innocence stamps I’ve seen lately.  Recently I discovered that the artist, Heather Ellis has an ETSY shop and sells some of her images as digital stamps.  I like that I can resize the digital images to fit my projects.

I created this card for Julee’s  Mojo Monday Challenge

I bought this new white cardstock that is supposed to be great for Copic markers.    Its really smooth but I’ve noticed that it is kind of porous and makes little white dots on the image.  I only bought a couple of sheets to give it a try.  I won’t be buying it again.   Am I too anal?

Products used:  Sweet Innocence image. CTMH – X7114B Bella, Smoky Plum, Crème Brule’. Copic. Button. Twine. Nestabilities. Stickles. Rhinestones. Hand dyed seam binding ribbon. Distress ink – Vintage photo.

In my thoughts

I made this card awhile ago.   I guess I should share it huh?

This paper rose was made using CTMH cardstock.   Their cardstock isn’t dyed through like most.  It has a white core which is perfect for distressing.  After I wound up and glued the rose, I spritzed with some water then started scraping it and distressing it.   I love the shabby look. .   I punch a larger circle on the white piece of CS  just bigger than the rose. It’s hard to tell but everything is attached with dimensionals and have different heights.

Products used:   Glimmer Mist – Snow Queen.  Basic Grey – Porcelain. Verve – freebie.  CTMH – texture cs.  Handmade paper rose. MS punch. Seam binding ribbon. Rhinestones. Nestabilities.

What they Symbolize

What can one say, for a harmless insect that does not bite, does not sew snakes’ wounds, and definitely does not measure human souls for good and evil, there have been a wide variety of myths and mythology associated with the life and the existence of the dragonfly.

One very striking aspect comes to mind. Change. In many regions and as a norm of this day, the dragonfly is considered to be an agent of change and presumably symbolic of a sense of self realization. Self realization from how the dragonfly uses its power to control its movements and so elegantly. And change and evolution is all about the dragonfly’s ability to fly and the way it can be comfortable on water, land as well as the air.

There are quite a few stories about Dragonflies and what they symbolize.  You can read more HERE.

I created this for the Week 4 Viva La Verve challenge

I stamped the images with a waterproof ink then painted them with Twinkling H20’s.  I wanted the dragonfly to look like a shiny button so I painted it with Liquid glass and sprinkled a little bit of peach glitter on it.

Products used:  Basic Grey – Olivia, CHF – Botanical Bliss, CTMH – Black, Liquid Glass. Twinkling H20’s . Seam binding ribbon. SU punch. Distress ink – Soot. Stickles. Maya Road pin.

I love you sew…

Look around you… everything seems to be some sort of shade of pink or red.  Just like any holiday… it comes earlier and earlier each year. The stores get overstocked and start promoting.   The florist are taking orders for a shade of rose that will help profess your love for your SO.  Chocolates are rolling off the shelves.  ( I personally will be ordering homemade, hand dipped chocolates from the neighbor guy)

Valentines day!   AAAHH  the season of Amore’.  My Handyman’s Birthday also happens to fall on that day..  It’s hard to make a blend of both so usually he gets a Valentine card and a Birthday card from me.

I personally think we should celebrate our love for one another all year long…  after all…  that is the newest commandment.

This card was made for the Mojo Monday Challenge.

Products used:  Just Right – Stitched with Love. CTMH – Tulip, Z1148 pretty pins. Basic Grey – Porcelain. Copic markers. Buttons. Twine. Seam binding ribbon. Sewing tool. Nestabilities. Distree ink – vintage photo.
