Blueberries for Sal

I loved this book when I was a child. I was in grade school the first time I read it. My Mom let me order it from the Scholastic Book Club…

I bought 5 pounds of blueberries the other day and decided to make freezer jam. My Handyman loves blueberries. Don’t they look good?

I had to rinse them… then started smashing them..

I soon learned that this kitchen tool doesn’t work very well with blueberries. It works great with raspberries and strawberries.

Time to get the power tools out!!

In between smashing, I made a couple of these…

Photobucket

Sugar, pectin and lemon juice has been added and now ready to put into freezer containers.

Freezer Blueberry Jam

3 Cups blueberries, rinsed well. 5 1/4 cups granulated sugar. 1 tablespoon lemon juice. 1 package powdered pectin. 3/4 C water.

Crush berries in a large bowl; add lemon juice. Stir in sugar and pectin and let for at least 10 minutes. Pour into freezer containers or small canning jars leaving 1/2 inch headspace. Cover immediately. Store in the freezer.

FYI. I made a double batch (6 cups of blueberries) and only used 6 Cups of sugar. I think that is plenty.

ESTERLYN

ESTERLYN is a local band from Boise.. They're on tour right now with Kutless and StellarKart. Luke Caldwell is the lead singer, his dad is Paster Bob at Calvary Chapel.

His sister, Sarah, and her husband felt that God was leading them to adopt a child from China. They couldn't afford it. Plus, they felt strongly that they wanted to adopt a special needs child. He watched their obedience to God -- moving to an unfamiliar city to take a job that would allow them to afford the adoption process. He saw God move in their circumstances and their lives in powerful ways to confirm their every step. They had so much joy in the process. God brought them a little girl. Their whole family celebrated with them. Luke was so impacted -- watching them actually live out their faith. There is legitimacy to that. It's genuine. He wanted his band to be like that. This little girl, the gift that she is, how her story touched so many people -- that's what he wants their band to be. Her name is Esterlyn.

This is the song - I couldn't find a good video of them.

It's Over

Well.. All good things must come up an end. I had my last lesson with Jessica Sprague.
We created photo grids. I chose pictures from my last trip to the Oregon Coast. I love it there! I wouldn't mind living there during the summer! After I created the grid, I realized I didn't even include my favorite activity! CRABBING!! I'm anxiously waiting for my next trip there!

Stars

Except for the Night, We could never know Stars.

Astronomy has always fascinated me. My Handyman and I like to sit out on the back patio late at night on weekends and stargaze. We watch for satellites, falling stars and try and name constellations. I always wonder how many other life forms in other galaxies are doing the same thing!

Its hard for me to come up with masculine cards that aren’t girly and flowery. This set from Cornish Heritage Farms is perfect!!

I used CHF Astronomy bock for the background. Its stamped with white ink on CTMH Outdoor Denim. Other products- CHF – Reach 4 the Stars. CTMH – Sunflower cs. X7109B Stardust. Twinkling H20’s. Ribbon. Picture hanger. Nestabilities. Stickles. Distress ink.

Starlight, starbright, first star I see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I might, get the wish I wish tonight!

Beat the Heat

This technique (Storyboard) that I just learned over at Jessica Sprague is ok… but I probably won’t use it much.. It 14 x 7.. Larger than most places will print….

I like the end result though……

This is the day we were over 100 and I decided it was time to drag out the doggie pool! Tanner loves water and gets so excited. He runs circles and chases me as I drag the pool across the yard.. before I even get the hose out! It’s quite the adventure!! Its actually pretty cheap entertainment. I usually have to buy a new pool every year or two. They're only about $10. Well worth it!

He bites at the water! Lays down in the water! Drinks the water! Runs across the yard and jumps into the water! He’s funny! I get about as wet as he does! Every couple of minutes he stands up and shakes off, then lays right back down into the nice cool water.

Paper Bag Scrapbook

Warning: This is a long post. Tutorial included.

My daughter in law Jennifer and her friend Jacqueline♥ came over Sunday for a paper bag scrapbook lesson. I figure I might as well snap a few pictures and make a tutorial . These are fun little scrapbooks to make and they make great gifts, too!

View HERE to see pictures before embellishing.

Supplies:

4 - #8 Paper bags. Lay one down, turn the next on the opposite direction, etc, until you have all four down. Sew a seam down the center. Fold in half and punch 3-5 holes. I use my Crop A Dile.

Cut:

4 – 5 x 5 Cardstock (for inside pockets), Punch out 4 large white circles. Punch 8 large B & T, Glue white circles to the edge of the 5 x 5 pieces. Now glue the B & T circles to each side of the circle. This will make a pull tab. Slide these into each bag pouch.

12 – 5 x 5 B&T

4 – 5 x 3 B&T

4 – 5 x 3 Cardstock

Several Colors of Ribbon

Cut several 5” strips of ribbon of various colors. 4 – 2” various colors.

Glue the 5 x 5 pieces of B&T to the Front, Back and flat pages of the book. Glue the 5 x 3 B&T pieces to the small inside flaps of the pages. Staple the small strips of ribbon to the 5 x 3 pieces of CS. These will slide inside the small pouch. These are great little pieces for small pictures and for journaling. After gluing everything. Pull the 5” ribbon strips through the holes you punches along the spine and tie. Add as many as desired.

Embellish and attach photos as desired.

Food Family and Fun - All I have left is my journaling..
