I love the Ocean

It’s been a couple of years since we were at the Oregon Coast.   I love it there.    We were there the first week in September and the weather was beautiful.  It was the high 80’s most of the week.  We had a couple of days just over 90.  It was crazy hot!    The ocean breeze made it bearable, though.

We love to crab in Newport at Yaquina Bay.  This is the bridge from the crabbing pier.     The seagulls were yelling….  mine. mine. mine. mine. mine. the entire time.

Sunset from the house where we were staying.   There is a tiny view of the ocean just under the sun.

One day we drove North, between Lincoln City and Tillamook and stock several times.

Depoe Bay is a tiny little bay.   The little town is where several whales live and hang out all year long.

Our house is near Gleneden Beach.  The rest of our week we stayed South of Lincoln City.

We saw several whales at every stop, spouting not far in the distance.

One day it was a little overcast and the whales were almost to shore in Depoe Bay. It was late afternoon as the sun was going down. Two young ones, about 20-30 feet were right up against the rocky shore feeding.

It was hard to come home.  We love it there!

Just Beachy

I made this digital scrapbook page from our trip to the Oregon Coast in September when Ashley and I went Whale watching.  We had a great time riding the zodiac out to see them.

I {Heart} the Ocean!

I was on vacation at the Oregon coast for about 7 days.  It was so nice.   The weather was pretty good.  We had fog for a few days but it wasn’t too cold. It was about 65-73 most of the week   We had fun roaming around on the beach, watching the whales and of course eating Clam Chowder  and Fish and Chips everywhere we went.

Agate Beach is really sandy and has a lot of small rolling dunes. (Ash and Dave)

I think this is the Heceta Head light house.  Sitting high on the hill in the fog.

This is pretty much what the coast looked like all week.  Fog!

I was standing up near the Devils punch bowl.  See the tiny surfers?

It was windy, foggy and the sea was pretty rough.   Ashley and I went out on a Zodiac inflatable to whale watch.  We had quite the ride out.   We found a couple of whales and were about 30 feet from them .  One of them breached once and we saw several whale tails.  They were too quick for me to snap a photo.  I didn’t take my good camera out.  It was too misty. It was awesome!  They were about 40 feet long.  This one is diving after coming up for air.

Another view of the Yaquina Bay bridge.  Just about to walk onto the crabbing dock.

Man Vs Sea Lion

Along the Bay in Newport.. There is a street full of little shops and places to eat.    We love going to The Port and eating the best fish and chips.   Fresh cod caught daily.    They also have this fabulous three berry cobbler.   Yum!   The sea lions hang out on the docks on the the back side of the restaurant.     This year we seen a sad sight….    This might be too graphic…   so if you get a little queezy.. you might not want to read on….

They lay on the docks, basking in the sun, barking at each other all day long. They don’t dare move because they’ll lose their place of glory.   Eventually they have to move.    They have to eat!  And when they come back they try and push each other off so they can regain their spot.   Its really funny to watch.

This poor guy ran into a fishing net..  and the net won!!    He has the tight rope wrapped around his neck and it cut through his thick skin.   There is a poster on the dock explaining his situation.    The OSU Marine Science Center has been keeping close watch over him.   He doesn’t seem to be in any pain and he still dives and is eating well.   They’re afraid to shoot him with a tranquilizer because he may fall off the dock and drown… (he weighs several hundred pounds).  He won’t let them close enough to remove the rope.   If all goes well, the rope will continue to unravel and fall off and his wounds will heel.  They’ve been shooting a darts of antibiotics into him.    It can potentially be fatal.     Its sad…  but I realize…   Its all part of the plan….
