Open Range

Did you know that Idaho is an Open Range state?

TITLE 25

ANIMALS

CHAPTER 21

ANIMALS RUNNING AT LARGE

25-2118. Animals on open range -- No duty to keep from highway. No person owning, or controlling the possession of, any domestic animal running on open range, shall have the duty to keep such animal off any highway on such range, and shall not be liable for damage to any vehicle or for injury to any person riding therein, caused by a collision between the vehicle and the animal. "Open range" means all uninclosed lands outside of cities, villages and herd districts, upon which cattle by custom, license, lease, or permit, are grazed or permitted to roam.

History:

[25-2118, added 1961, ch. 249, sec. 1, p. 415.]

If you like driving off the beaten path and like to explore…  more than likely you’ll run into a few of these…

Black Angus seem to be the popular beef product in Idaho.   There are thousands and thousand of acres of ranch lands all over the state.  (Probably more that potato farms).

This big boy was watching over his harem.

And yes!  They are not fenced in…  They are on the side of the road, in the middle of the road and out in the field.   So…. slow down because if you hit one of them…   you’re going to be owing the rancher some big bucks.

Memorial

Happy Memorial Day.   I took these photo’s while at Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.   I love seeing all of the flags flying in all of their glory!   The cemetery is beautiful.  It is nestled in the Boise Foothills and is two levels.   As you wind to the top level there is an overlook.  You can see for miles across the Boise valley.

In memory of those that served our country.

Graduate

There are graduations going on all over the valley.  The season of change.   I’m sure there are all kinds of emotions flowing from the graduates.  Hope, achievement, anticipation, fear… etc…

Congratulations!   I wish you the best!

I cut out the graduate shape and the year with my Silhouette using CTMH cardstock.

I added some hand dyed seam binding ribbon, baubles and a button to embellish.

Products used:   Verve – Celebrating You.   CTMH -  Star Spangled Blue. Topiary. Pacifica.  Basic Grey – Picadilly.  Seam binding ribbon. Button. Twine. Sewing tool. Silhouette. Distress ink – Vintage photo.  Robins Nest – baubles.

Week 21 – Dream

I drove over to Drycreek Cemetery this afternoon in the Boise foothills to visit my Granddaughter.  She would have turned 10 on the 23rd.   On the edge of Drycreek is the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery which has a couple of family members in it, too.  It is such a beautiful area to visit.

I was thinking about the service that these Veterans gave to our county.    It fit perfect with this weeks Project52 theme – Dream.     Imagine the dreams of freedom that these soldiers had as they served our country.

Week 20 – Motherhood

My plan was to drive into Boise to Kathryn Albertsons Park and get some shots of the Mama Geese and their goslings for Project52 over at My Four Hens.   Well..  I could hear them in the tall grass but their Mama’s had them hid very well.

Part of Motherhood is being a protector.    This Mama was doing a good job of it.

Tag! You’re it!

I love this Paper Trey Ink stamp set – Tiny Tags and they sell a die cut that coordinates with it.

It’s been awhile since I’ve made a card.  I have about 15 to make in the month of June so I better find some Mojo!  and I better find it soon!

I used a plain sheet of CTMH Gypsy cardstock and attached an older sheet of Topiary designer paper.   I stamped with PTI – Grunge Me using Orange ink.  The fun little tags are stamped with Gyspy ink and strung along the card with some orange bakers twine.

Of course I had to finish it off with some orange ribbon and a button!

Products used:  CTMH – Gypsy, Orange, Topiary.  PTI – Tiny Tags stamps and die cuts.  PTI – Grunge Me.  PTI – Birthday Basics Sentiments.  Bakers twine. Ribbon. Button. Sewing tool.

Roses

Roses are in bloom at the Boise Depot.  There are so many pretty colors.

Here are just a few of them.

And this is what the sunrise over the Boise Foothills looked like Tuesday morning on my way to work.

Textures by Patti Brown Photography.  Her new collection is currently 40% off  HERE.

Week 19 – Weather

Here in Idaho the weather seems to change every 5 minutes.  We’ve had a fairly cool Spring.   We’ve still been getting down in the mid 30’s at night, and low 70’s during the day.  If you ask me…. that’s about perfect! (If you look at my weather meter in the top right, you can see my current weather)

Early Sunday morning I grabbed my camera to try and snap a photo of the quail sitting on my fence.  I got a photo but he looks like a tiny ant.  I didn’t have my zoom lens on.    What a beautiful morning…  Clear blue skies and the sun coming up over the Boise foothills.   Just perfect!

A view from my back patio, minus the quail.

Mothers Day

Today is a special day for everyone.   We all have a mother.  Even if she’s not a part of your life…. You are here because of her.   It’s a day to celebrate her.

“Motherhood is near to divinity. It is the highest, holiest service to be assumed by mankind”

Happy Mothers day to my Mom!

What is a Mother

A mother is someone to shelter and guide us,
To love us, whatever we do,
With a warm understanding and infinite patience
And wonderful gentleness, too.
How often a mother means swift reassurance
In soothing our small, childish fears,
How tenderly mothers watch over their children
And treasure them all through the years!
The heart of a mother is full of forgiveness
For any mistake, big or small,
And generous always in helping her family,
Whose needs she has placed above all.
A mother can utter a word of compassion
And make all our cares fall away,
She can brighten a home with the sound of her laughter
And make life delightful and gay.
A mother possesses incredible wisdom
And wonderful insight and skill -
In each human heart is that one special corner
Which only a mother can fill!
By Katherine Nelson Davis

Happy Birthday {clap, clap} To you!

I recently purchase a couple of Paper Trey Ink’s mini fusion stamp sets.  This card is made using Heart 2 Heart #2.   It has a matching Die cut for the balloons.   (I need practice stamping on the die cuts.)

I cut out then stamped several balloons using CTMH – Sweet Leaf, Sunset, Twilight and Honey. I tried outlining some of the balloons with a white souffle’ pen.  (I decided I don’t like that pen!)

Products used:   PTI – Heart 2 Heart #2,  Balloon die cut.  CTMH – Honey, Sunset, Sweet Leaf, Twilight. Distress ink – Vintage photo.   RicRac die cut. White soufflĂ©  pen.

I really need to take the time to sit down and make some cards instead of trying to do them at the last minute.  I need to make 4 more before the weekend. (Wait! I'm pre-scheduling several blog posts and it probably is the weekend. HHmmm... Wonder if I got the cards done?)   EEEK!

Bobbin’ Along

Well the Red Red Robin comes Bob Bob Bobbin along…

This funny little guy was in my back yard searching for worms. (I have some big night crawlers back there.)    I was sitting on the lawn chair and he kept hopping a little closer to me.   There have been dozens of them this year.  (Probably cuz I no longer have Tanner to chase them off.)

I also snapped this photo of one of my bleeding heart plants.  I added a Jessica Drossin texture to it. I love the rebirthing season; when Earth awakens with it’s new beauty.

These pretty little things are my Hens and chicks.   They do well in the Southwest Idaho Desert.
