Sunshine

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy.

Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry.

Sunshine on the water looks so lovely.

Sunshine almost always makes me high.

                                    Mr. John Denver

Go watch his video HERE.

Last weekend I got sunburned sitting by the river while fishing.  My face is peeling.  My lips are blistered and peeling.  This week…. rain, wind and cold.   This morning it was 35 degree’s and I hear we have a chance of snow tomorrow.   Really?  Is this a bad joke for my BBQ and everyone else camping and picnicking?

I created my sunshine card for one of our VP’s that will be retiring next week.   It looks like I’m going to have to create my own sunshine!

The sun doesn't think, compare or judge. It just shines for all life.
Let the sun be a reflection of the teacher within.
Just shine ...

Products used:  Verve – Enjoy Today. Feel the Sun. Shapeability. My Minds Eye. Distress ink – vintage photo. Copic markers. Seam binding ribbon. Twine. Tag. Sewing tool. Stickles.

Muddin’

While walking around the reservoir at Steck Park I noticed a swarm of Swallow’s flitting around in the mud.   At first I thought there must be some sort of bug hatching.   Then I realized they must be filling their mouths with fresh mud and working on their nests.

Sure enough,  they all flew off and above me on the big rock pillar were dozens of nests.  It’s amazing how fast they dive bomb into them.  At the last second, close their wings and in they go.

Rolling Rolling Rolling

Every time I see a tumbleweed I think of the movie Fievel Goes West.

Turn off the music above and enjoy…

I found this stack of tumbleweeds up against a barbed wire fence.  Their journey had come to an abrupt end.

Alvin

This fat little chipmunk came to visit.   Alvin is what I called him.  He was quite friendly and walked right up to us searching for food.    I really didn’t want him eating out of my hands.   Throughout the weekend I set out on a big rock a  couple of peanuts, sunflower seeds and some bread.   His friends and family weren’t quite as out going as he was.

The funniest was the bird trying to eat the bacon.  I was grilling bacon.  I thought I would grill the entire package for the weekend,  breakfast, burgers etc..    My Handyman sat the plate on the picnic table as I was finishing the last batch.   A bright yellow and orange bird (maybe a Tananger) flew down and tried to snatch a piece.

I added a Florabella texture to this one.

Journey

Can you imagine the country that this Ole Freight train has seen? What an adventure.   It is pulling about 50 loads of cargo.  Probably either heading to a barge along the Columbia River or possibly on into Portland.

First stop across the bridge is Huntington, Oregon.

Remnants of the Old Oregon Trail can still be seen today when one is traveling north from Farewell Bend State Recreation Area toward the town of Huntington on U.S. Route 30.

Evidence of the hardships and tragedies of the pioneer movement still exists: a small iron cross, visible from Route 30, marks the location where Snake River Shoshone Indians killed a number of emigrants in 1860.

At the turn of the 19th century, Huntington developed a reputation as "Sin City", a rugged frontier town having its share of saloons, Chinese opium dens, and gunslingers.

R & R

My Handyman and I went camping this weekend.  It was such a beautiful weekend to be out and about.  The weather was in the mid 70’s.  We caught some nice catfish (6- 1 gal freezer bags after filleted), and relaxed.   I took quite a few photo’s. Not my usual.   I’ll share some of them with you over the next week or two.

There is a bridge that crosses from the Idaho side of the Snake River to the Oregon side near Steck Park.  This is the beginning of Brownlee Reservoir.  Quite a few freight trains come through the area.

I stood on a trail near the tracks as this UNP train came through.

Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE:UNP) is one of America's leading transportation companies. Its principal operating company, Union Pacific Railroad, is North America's premier railroad franchise, covering 23 states across the western two-thirds of the United States.

Oh to be Young

I especially like this picture!   Isn’t it fun?   The flowering Crab Apples are my favorite with their bright pink blooms.  They were in full bloom and raining blossoms all around. (even a few in her hair)

Young and Beautiful

I had the opportunity yesterday to take a beautiful young lady out and take some Senior pictures of her.    I have a lot of editing to do next week for her.   Here is a sneak peak of what is to come.

Manual

A couple of nights ago I got my camera out and practiced a few manual settings.   The sun was going down and it was a little breezy but it was a beautiful evening.  Most of my tulips are about gone but I have a few stragglers still blooming.

Straight out of the camera. Natural light.  I used my 50mm lens.  Various F stops.

The bleeding hearts are in full bloom, too

And I can’t forget my constant companion

I’m so happy for warmer weather.  I’m going to start packing my camera around again.

Birthday Wishes

I found a few spare minutes the other day to make this card for a coworker.   Again… I have a hard time making masculine cards.   This one works.  :)

I made this for Julee’s Mojo Monday challenge.

Faith and Family

The weekend of April 30th my cousins were in town and we all went to the Boise Idaho LDS Temple.   What a great experience for all of us.  It was a beautiful Spring Day and the tulips on the Temple grounds were in full bloom.   Their Mom,  my Aunt Marva is my Dad’s Sister.  I grew up next door to them in Eastern Idaho…   We had a great weekend together.

You can find out more about my beliefs HERE.

"The temple is concerned with things of immortality. It is a bridge between this life and the next. All of the ordinances that take place in the house of the Lord are expressions of our belief in the immortality of the human soul."

Mother Dear

I hope everyone had a fabulous Mother’s Day.  I had to wait to post this card until after I gave it to my mom.  I was able to spend the afternoon with her. We went to dinner at Famous Dave’s.  We met my Daughter Ashley, David and his Parents and Sister.  It was Delish

Grown don't mean nothing to a mother.  A child is a child.  They get bigger, older, but grown?  What's that suppose to mean?  In my heart it don't mean a thing.  ~Toni Morrison, Beloved, 1987

I created this for Viva La Verve challenge.  You can see more HERE.  And.. guess what?  I won the challenge for April.  I get the entire new June stamp release from Verve.   Exciting huh?

”Every one of us can mother someone—beginning, of course, with the children in our own families but extending far beyond. Every one of us can show by word and by deed that the work of women in the Lord’s kingdom is magnificent and holy. I repeat: We are all mothers in Israel, and our calling is to love and help lead the rising generation through the dangerous streets of mortality.” Sheri L. Dew, “Are We Not All Mothers?,” Ensign, Nov 2001, 96
