Brush Strokes

I had the desire to get out my brushes a couple of weeks ago.   While out and about last winter, while checking out the holiday bazaars, we saw this cute wood cut out of  the word LOVE that we thought would be so cute for my granddaughters bedroom.  I bought some cute valentines paper while it was in season.

I finally have the wood letters and decided to get painting.

I painted the edges with  Decoart American – Dragon Fruit.  I love the brightness of it and it matches the paper perfectly.  The pictures do not do this justice.  I had a hard time getting some good photo’s while this was hanging on my wall.

I traced the wood letter onto the paper, hand cut them out then attached with mod podge. When that was dry, I put a couple of coats over the entire piece.  I like using the matte finish of the mod podge.

I attached together with some bright pink gingham ribbon and added a wire on top to finish it.

Isn’t it cute? The finished piece is about 24 inches tall.

I also painted this summery flower hang up.

And just in time for Flag day, I finished this American sign.  The lettering is white vinyl.

What should I paint next?   I’m thinking watermelon!

Saturday is the first day of Summer.  I hope you’re is off to a good start!

Never Looked Back

A few weeks ago, a friend asked me to put together a sign for his daughter’s cheer coach for their season end party.  I wish I had a picture to share of the team.  His daughter is about 7 and so cute.

This sign is 36x20.  The team colors are black, purple and silver.   I ordered some metallic silver vinyl for the phrase from Expressions Vinyl.  It adds some nice bling to the project.

I based the large board with the purple, then painted over it with black.  The edges are sanded so a little of the purple shows through. (You know me and that grunge look)

I’ve made quite a few items using vinyl but this was the first time I did one so large.

The team pictures will go in the individual purple frames.

Brush Strokes

Real quick cuz it is after the holidays,  Christmas is over and all the goodies are put away until next year.   Here are a couple of things I painted for others.

I took these late at night real quick so the pictures aren’t the best.   It seems I have less and less time to do what I love.   I really need to do something about that.  The problem is that I have too many things that I love  :)    I signed up for a Project52 again this year.   What was I thinking?   It may turn into a project 12.

Wishing you the best New Year ever!!

The Creative Season

This time of year is crazy busy for me.    Almost every waking hour that I am at home is spent painting and making things for custom orders and gifts. I don’t do any photography after mid November.  Here is a sneak peak of one little thing I’ve painted. (Sorry I can’t post projects here before Christmas).  My little Granddaughter Kendall loves the color purple and recently discovered owls.   I thought she might like this little ornament.

I also made about 10 of these frames for family and passed them out on Thanksgiving so they could get some use out of them this year.   I used various background papers and cut out the verse with vinyl.   Isn’t it fun?

The first Saturday in December is a big girls out day.  We get up at the crack of dawn and head out to the local Holiday bazaars, vintage shops and Christmas show.   It’s usually my Sister, Mom, Daughter in Law and a few friends and lasts ALL DAY!  (I really need to convince my daughters to go with us.)   We usually have a list of about 15 places we want to go but end up at about half of them.   We’re in no hurry.  We just want to enjoy each other’s company, hopefully find a couple of gifts and just have fun.

I found this silly black boa at one of the vintage shops and had to show it off.   My sister forced me to wear the hat.

Last week I gave a talk at church.  It was good for me to take a couple of hours of my time to sit down, study, ponder and prepare.   It was a comfort to me.   My young women at church did a service project last week for someone in need.   This week we will be going caroling throughout the neighborhood and will be passing out goodies.  It is the Season of Peace and Love.

I haven’t made any Christmas cards.  I haven’t even bought any to send out.  That doesn’t mean I don’t care.  I can’t do it all and that’s OK.    I will spend the next week with Family and just enjoy the Christmas season. We will gather, eat, play games, sing Christmas songs and just enjoy each other’s company. My Family means the world to me and being with them is the best thing ever!

I hope the Spirit of Christmas is with your Family.  If you don’t have any family near, go out and serve others.   I guarantee it is the best feeling ever and you will be blessed.

Merry Christmas!

Chilly Chums

Here is another project I painted this year.  Penguins are so cute and fun.  They are like Snowmen.  You can keep them out all winter if you choose.

Jolly Ole Man

I just finished painting the Santa Tree.   I started out with a rusty metal tree.  It is about 2 feet tall.  I base coated it by sponging with sand to give it an eggshell texture.   My paint of choice is Deco Art Americana.  I purchase almost all of my paint supplies at Quality Art.  I don’t spend a lot on my paint brushes because I wear them out so fast.  I use Royal Soft Grips.  They are usually about $3-4 dollars each.

I {heart} wooly sheep.

I have a mixed theme on this Santa.   He has a slight touch of patriotic to him.

Boo to You!

It’s official..  I got out my brushes and paints Friday night.   It has begun.   I have several custom projects to paint for Christmas.   I haven’t painted anything for Fall for a few years so I decided to paint these cute little Halloween pins. I love painting wearable art.

WARNING!!!   I am sharing a lot of pictures!

Fall is my favorite time of year.  I love the cool crisp air and I love all of the colors.

IMG_4067_edited-1

First I base coat all of the colors.  I then add all of the shading and detail.    I found this Glamour Dust while shopping at my favorite art store.  It is a sheer paint with colored very fine glitter in it.   It’s perfect for a little added bling.

After I’ve finished painting and signing each piece they get a coat of clear acrylic spray to seal the paint.

Pins are glued to the back.
