Project Life

I am going to attempt to do a Project Life Scrapbook for the new year..   Have you heard of it?  Becky Higgins is the creator and you can find more about it HERE.   I found out last week that Jessica Sprague sells digital kits for Project Life.   You can find them HERE.   Basically it’s an easier way to scrapbook and keep track of your life.    You can scrap a page each day,  or each week, or once a month.  It’s up to you.   There is also a Project Life Community over at Big Picture Classes where you can get inspiration.
This is my front page for my book to get me started.  The whole concept is little pockets of information.
Another class that I am going to start on January 1st is being taught by Stephanie Ackerman over at Homegrown Hospitality.   It’s going to be a 12 month Basic Easy No Stress follow along class.
I will Journey through Twenty Twelve creating a scrapbook life journal, based on 12 prompts, doodles, quotes, verses, inspiration and MY life.    We are committed to NEVER inflict any unnecessary stress on ourselves.   (exactly what I need)

Here is an example of her art..

What are you plans for 2012?  Are you taking any new classes or starting any new projects?

Over Joyed

Joy seemed to be my word for the Christmas season.  I used it in many of my cards.

This card was created with my Silhouette using a cutting file from SVG Cuts.    Again…. I needed something to put gift cards in and in my own opinion… this is much better than a plain ole card.

Products used:  SU Christmas papers.  SilhouetteSD.  Stickles. Rhinestone. Distress ink – vintage photo.

Vintage Finds

Ok…  For the last few years when I go to a yard sale or a little vintage shop…  If I find a cute little old tea kettle or coffee shop… I buy one or two..   They are quite collectable and aren’t cheap…..

I love painting them!

I used to paint quite a few items and have a booth at a bazaar every year but it became a job and no longer fun.   Now I just paint a few custom orders..  In 2012 I resolve to paint a little more and to especially paint a few more things for myself.

I use Americana acrylic paint.  It is my favorite brand and I can buy them for .98 at my local art supply store; Quality Art in Boise.   I buy all of my brushes there, too.

The recipient of this purdy little teapot absolutely loved it!

Sorry about the glare on this one…

Merry Wishes

At the last minute about a week before Christmas I found this great Die cut by Tim Holtz.   It’s a pinecone and needles set.  I love it…

I made this gift card hold for my brother…  It’s pretty basic… next year I’m going to make some more of these cute little cones.

It’s hard to tell because I took all of the pictures in the evening and the light was horrid but the background is embossed with Christmas words.

Here is a better picture to see the embossing.   I used a snow marker for the snow on the cones.   I drew it along the edges,  let it dry for about 10 minutes then pulled out my heat gun.  I puffed up from the heat.

Products used:   Tim Holtz – Die cuts-  pine cones. Embossing folder. Spellbinders – Label 10.  Verve – Merry Wishes.  Snow Marker. Distress ink – vintage photo.  CTMH – Holiday Red. New England Ivy.  SU – Cherry Cobbler.

Merry and Bright

I have so many things to share with you but can’t yet…    I’ll have several days worth of posts after Christmas.

I needed a couple of cards to put gift cards in…  I made this cute little cardinal with a kit from SVG Cuts.  I cut out everything with my Silhouette.    Isn’t this much better than a boring ole’ envelope?

Products used:   SVG Cuts – Cardinal. Various SU papers. CTH – Crystal blue. Embossing folder. Rhinestone. Stickles. Distress ink – Vintage photo, Festive berries. Verve – Merry Wishes.

A Christmas to Remember

This poem was written by a Sister at my church probably about 15-20 years ago….   It is so inspirational.   I hope you enjoy it.

A Christmas to Remember  by Sister Walker

Christmas usually makes us think
of shopping in the snow,
of caroling, loving, giving, sharing,
And that special mistletoe.

It reminds most folks of Santa,
And presents 'neath the tree,
And Christmas had always brought,
Those same thoughts to me.

But something happened late one night
To change the way I feel.
An unexpected incident
that made the season real.

I had just come from talking,
to a real close friend of mine.
We were pondering the season,
In a voice much like a whine.

For complaining seems to be the norm
When Christmas gets this near.
"Just can't wait to get it over"
Is all you ever hear.

Well, it was snowing really hard
I was miserable and cold.
And the packages I had,
Were getting awfully hard to hold.

So I thought I'd just stop and sit
While I waited for my ride.
I found a bus stop shelter
I went and sat inside.

My Christmas spirit was not the best,
As I shivered from the cold.
And all the holly jolly stuff,
was getting really old.

I sat there with my attitude,
When I noticed 'cross the street,
A nativity no one cared for,
It looked old and pretty beat.

The thought had crossed my mind,
"How sad, does no one really care?"
Now that Santa's the important one,
To children everywhere.

People passing, no one cared,
The cradle had been tipped,
And the dress on Virgin Mary,
was looking worn and ripped.

I figured, well it's so commercialized,
And now Santa is the one
That children care about
'cause he brings all the fun.

That's the time I spent on that
so I'm just as guilty too,
Until I saw the incident
That changed my point of view

It was a man dressed in a suit,
A Santa Claus no less.
He was fixing up the manger scene,
And cleaning up the mess.

As I sat there watching him
I didn't feel the cold,
I felt the love and warmth he had
For a birthday long ago.

He looked down at baby Jesus,
Then he knelt down reverently
Took his hat from off his head
And laid it 'cross his knee.

I heard the prayer he said that night
It's one I'll not forget,
He said, "Bless the children I've not seen
And all the ones I've met.

Please help the parents of these kids,
To make them understand,
That you're the reason we are here
I'm just here to lend a hand.

He said, " I didn't mean to be important,
I didn't mean to be the one
That everybody thinks of first,
When you're the chosen son."

He wiped his eyes from tears of love
As he continued on,
" I want the folks to realize
This way they think is wrong.

Please help me have the power
To teach these people true,
That the spirit of the holiday,
Its not in me, but You.

I see in all the homes around,
They decorate in me.
I was supposed to be for fun
It's you they need to see.

I'm sorry I'm complaining
He said still on one knee,
" I wish I had the power,
To help some of them see.

For God so loved the world he gave
His only begotten son,
How can they compare my gifts
To this special Holy One.

He stopped talking for a moment,
Just knelt in fervent prayer
Beside the manger scene he fixed
With tender loving care.

He put his hat back on his head,
Slowly rose up on his feet,
He zipped his coat, said good-bye
then wandered down the street.

It wasn't 'til that moment,
I noticed people everywhere,
They all had stopped to listen,
And they had heard that Santa's prayer.

'Cross the way was an apartment
with windows that faced the street,
And faces in every window
probably people he'd never meet.

Will he ever know
The 'power' he received,
If I hadn't seen it for myself
I'm not sure that I'd believed.

But now I know the 'power'
Is in each and everyone,
As we treat Christmas as a birthday
For an only begotten Son.

I know that Christmas in my house will never be the same again,
It changed one night I heard Santa say,
"In Jesus name, Amen"

Wednesday, December 21

I took Scissorbella and Prince Charming out a couple of weekends ago to take some photo’s for their Christmas card.  It was a cold and blustery day…   I think the wind is still chasing all of the snow clouds away!  I got some fun and silly pictures.

This is the card I created for them.

Merry Christmas!
